Important Information for Volunteers

Volunteer opportunities are available for anyone over the age of 16.
Volunteering with Scarowinds is individualized. Volunteers are sent to a training location after check-in, where you are given full instructions and guidance. A CDYC Board Officer or group lead will rarely be on site.
Although it is not required, we suggest signing up with a buddy. Carowinds will keep CDYC volunteers together as best as possible.
Volunteers have the option of being utilized in the Food & Beverage Department, or as a roaming Scare Character.
If you chose Food & Beverage, you will will be placed wherever there is a need.
During previous years, CDYC volunteers have most always chosen to be a character. You will be sent to a hair and makeup session, assigned a location, and are basically there as a presence.
Scarowinds shifts are 8 hours (4:30 - 12:30) with a "pay rate" of $8 per hour. There will be a 30 minute "unpaid" break. You will also receive a FREE Carowinds ticket with each scholarship.
Dress Code
If you are volunteering as a scare character, you will need to wear ALL BLACK. Scarowinds team members will dress you accordingly once in hair and makeup.
For Food & Beverage, Games, or Retail -
Khaki or Tan pants, shorts, or skirts. No denim material or jeans. Shorts or skirts must be of fingertip length. You may not wear cut off shorts, cargo shorts, or capri style pants.
Solid white collard shirt or polo with no stripes, symbols, or images. NO tee shirts, cropped tops, tank tops or sleeveless shirts are permitted. All shirts must be tucked into pants.
** Volunteers are required to report to check-in in uniform!
Tennis shoes that are primarily white or black. No bright colors.
Food & Beverage volunteers will be provided with a hat and apron.
If whether permits, you may only wear a solid black or navy jacket or sweatshirt.
Face and neck tattoos must be concealed with makeup. Jewelry should only consist of mid size earrings. Only small studs are allowed for nose piercings.
It is suggested that you do not bring in any personal belongings other than an ID. Cell phones should be remain in your pocket, as no cell phone use is permitted during your shift. Any bags must be stored in a locker, and you must provide your own lock.
Other helpful tips....
Parking is available in the associate's parking lots on Best Day Ever Blvd/ Catawba Terrance. Turn at the blue sign for Carowinds Administration.
You will report to the Employment Office, across from the drop off loop. Do not go through the associate's entrance gate.
Carowinds does ask that you check-in 30 minutes prior to your shift; therefore you will need to arrive around 4:00pm.
Late arrivals or early dismissals are not permitted.
